OUR APPROACH
Our approach is firmly embedded in a deep understanding of the significance of very early relationships (attachment theory) on long term mental health and wellbeing, in addition to a robust theoretical, research and experience based knowledge of the biological, emotional and social impacts of early childhood trauma on all aspects of an individuals development and relationships, across the lifespan.

Our work over many years with clients of all ages who present with psychological distress has informed our approach to psychological assessment. Whilst symptoms are important to discuss and explore, our view is that these symptoms must be understood in the context of life events and relationships with others, and that working on the symptoms alone tends to have limited long term effectiveness. We believe that symptoms of distress are often the result of attempts to manage difficult experiences, and as such our priority is to support individuals and families to develop a detailed and compassionate understanding of themselves and what has happened to them (a Psychological Formulation), so as to enable long-lasting change. We pride ourselves on offering a high quality assessment and formulation service, and our aim is for all our clients to leave their initial appointment feeling heard, understood and validated.

We work closely with local psychological and holistic therapists to ensure that you receive the most appropriate intervention for you and your child. If we believe that your requirements are outside of our remit of speciality, we will endeavour to signpost you to an alternative clinician. We believe wholeheartedly in the need for transparency regarding our understanding of the difficulties being presented to us and the intervention we feel is indicated. We actively encourage you to 'shop around' for therapists who can offer the recommended treatment following our assessment so that you find the right person to support you, therefore there is no obligation to continue working with us after the initial meeting.
